Trick skiing, now known as shortboard, combines the art of balance with speed, agility and explosive power in two 20 second passes.
Competitors perform as many shortboard tricks as they can in the two passes allowed. The higher the degree of difficulty of each trick, the higher the points value but the greater the risk of a fall.
At the Moomba Masters, shortboard passes consist of a rope on toe pass, with the rope held by the foot while skiers perform a range of spins, twists and skiline manouvres, followed by the hand pass, where the best exponents throw in a dazzling array of high speed flips and aerials.
It's a cut throat event - a lapse of concentration and an early fall will cost dearly, and at this level it takes two full passes with a high degree of difficulty to be in the running for a title.
The current Mens World Record Holder for the trick/shortboard event is Nicolas Le Forestier of France with 12,400 points, and the Womens World Record Holder is Natallia Berdnikava of Belarus with 9080.
