Welcome to the Moomba Ski Show
The Victorian Waterski Association SKI SHOW TEAM will be on the water as part of the evening entertainment during the Moomba Tournament. Thanks to dedicated sponsors at Club Marine Insurance, Skicraft and Mercury Marine the team keeps Melbourne entertained throughout summer, performing at the Moomba Waterfest, Melbourne Summer and Winter Boat Show and other Victorian venues, most recently Caribbean Gardens for the Xtreme Day Out event and the 2009 Southern 80. The Team also have an international profile, most recently capturing the attention of audiences at Sea World on the Thailand/Cambodian border during a two month tour in 2003.
Show skiing has been around for many decades and is a widely recognised and competitive sport around the world, although not a competitive sport in Australia. This year the IWSF have formed an inaugural committee to further promote the discipline of show skiing and pave the way for a world event, and we are fortunate to have an Australian delegate appointed to this committee. The ski show team allows confident skiers to develop skills they would otherwise not be able to experience as a social skier. Show skiing usually involves an entertaining theme, announcers, characters, multiple boats and skiers and a variety of acts. Highlights of a ski show include aerial jumps, high speed whirls, backwards barefoot, sky ski, swivel and pyramids.
The Moomba Ski Show Team is a family oriented group which has existed since the 70’s and includes members ranging from 6 to 60 years old. The team has a great support network of committed skiers, hard working committee members and experienced boat drivers. Although an amateur group, many team members have gone on to work professionally in ski shows at Sea World on the Gold Coast and internationally.
Team members commit their time and energy in twice weekly training sessions at the National Watersports Centre at Patterson River, where the team are currently developing the 2009 Moomba Ski Show performance.
