Update from injured jumper Kyle 'Kiwi' Eade

At the official competitors briefing for the 50th Anniversary Moomba Masters, a letter from hugely popular champion Kyle Eade was read. Kyle seriously injured himself in a jump crash in New Zealand training for the Moomba Masters - here's what he had to say:

Dear fellow competitors and officials,

It saddens me not to be sitting with you all at this competitors meeting and gearing up for the 50th Anniversary Moomba Masters.

I have not missed a Moomba since 1991 and 2010 was to be my 20th year competing on the Yarra River. I think I have competed more years at Moomba than any other skier apart from the really old guys like Scot and Jaret who might be one or two up on me.

Moomba has always been my favourite tournament of the year. Skiing on the Yarra is definitely challenging but I have always enjoyed the challenge and it definitely brings out the best in everybody.

I have had great success in the past here in Melbourne. I take pride in being the only skier of late that has had a podium finsih in all three events and Overall over various years (3rd Tricks, 2nd Slalom, 2nd Jump and 3rd Overall). Although I have never won an event here I was extremely close in 2009 when I was beaten on the last jump of the tournament. Winning the Moomba Masters has been a dream of mine for years and I was hoping to have another chance to realise that dream in 2010... I guess I will have to wait another year.

I want to wish everyone all the best for a great competition. I am sure the 50th Moomba Masters will provide the same exciting atmosphere and thrilling competition as it has over the past 49 years. I can't wait to follow along with the action and results online.

Enjoy the competition and have a beer or two for me on Moomba Monday night!

Ski well,

Kiwi
