Day 1: Aussies do well but 10-year-old prodigy steals the show!

Melbourne turned on its finest weather (a rare occasion!) for Day 1 of Junior Moomba, with sunny skies and just the lightest of breezes to mark the opening of the 50th Anniversary Moomba Masters.

The Australian juniors have done themselves proud on the first day of competition, with Tim Bradstreet holding down first place in boys slalom and jump, and Josh Briant just edging him out for first round honours in tricks. In the girls, Jacinta Carroll has taken out the first round in jump, while Moomba debutante Makayla Haw from the USA has claimed first spot in slalom.

But the story of the day belongs to 10-year-old superstar Anna Gay, who beat out fierce competition from girls many years her senior to emerge first in girls tricks. We might have expected it... after all, her Dad Russell is a 12000 point trick skier, but it is an outstanding achievement for a youngster competing on the Yarra for the first time.

All the day's results can be found here - tune in tomorrow for the results of Night Jump and more Junior action on the water from 8am.
