Aussies one/two in brutal Womens Slalom Final

In an amazing Womens Slalom Final in soupy conditions on the Yarra River, Australian Cathryn Humphrey (pictured above) emerged victorious for her first Moomba Masters Slalom crown. Cathryn beat out the more fancied competition in highly challenging conditions on a swollen river, scoring 2@12m on the first run of the day.

Normally that score wouldn't have stood up through a final, but the crowd watched in amazement as one champion after another tumbled early from the city end of the river. Karina Nowlan gambled on running 13m off the dock (others were starting at the easier 14.25m line) but it paid off with a silver. Cathryn and Karina were the only two competitors to run the 13m line. Karen Truelove of the USA claimed third with 2@13m.

It's a great day already for Cathryn, in the prizemoney for slalom and tricks, where she's seeded third in the final later today.
