Barefooting returns to the Yarra for 50th Anniversary

Barefoot water skiing made a return to the Moomba Masters this year to help celebrate and promote the 50th Anniversary of the event.

Six barefooters were invited to take part in a trick only event. The first round was held on the Saturday and fortunately results were posted before the storm hit.

With the second round scheduled for 8am Sunday they were hopeful that conditions will allow the event to take place. However this was not meant to be.

Results for the Women had Stacey Green from Mulwala take third place with 1760 points. Although Stacey didn’t ski a personal best she did include her new trick being a front to back 180 turn in her run. Secdond place went to Gizie Halasz from the Gold Coast with 2290 points, and the winner, with a pending junior world record of 3460 points was Megan Roberts. Megan skied out a back-to-front toe turn and in doing so became only the second female in the world performing this trick.

Results for the Men saw Jamie Payne from Brisbane take third with a disappointing 1600 points after an early fall. Second place with 3300 points went to Robert Blauw from Sydney, who executed a beautiful 720 turn in front of the crowd. Our Mens winner was Brisbane's Brendan Paige, who has really stepped up from Juniors to Open and had a brilliant run at the Moomba Masters to score 4650 points. Always a crowd pleaser, Brendan threw in a sideslide at the end of his run for the crowd on the Swan Street Bridge.

It was a great exhibition by some of Australia's top barefooters on the famous Yarra River.
