Transportation

The Melbourne Airport is situated approx 20 to 45 minutes from Melbourne’s city centre, depending on traffic conditions. There are several transport options available including:
Taxis, not suitable if you have three event ski bags, one-event bags are ok. Taxis are available directly outside the arrival halls. Cost for a standard taxi is approx AU$35.
Skybus operates 7 days a week, including public holidays and is a cheaper alternative for athletes, officials and supporters. Skybus departs every 10-15 minutes between 6am and 9.30pm and half hourly or hourly at other times from outside both the arrival halls. Fares start from $15 one way. Skybus operates services to and from all major inner city hotels. We suggest you visit www.skybus.com.au and pre-book your fare if you plan to be dropped at your hotel.

Rental Cars

If you wish to rent a vehicle, we highly recommended that you book your vehicle well in advance from either your local travel agent or on line with the following companies in Australia. Melbourne has several major events happening in March including the Australian Formula One Grand Prix so plan ahead and book your car early.

Melbourne has several automated electronic toll roads, no stopping, that you need to be aware of if renting a car. It is recommended that when the rental car company asks if you need a toll pass for each day you are traveling around the city of Melbourne say YES! It may cost you a few extra $ but will save you time and any surprises on your credit card bill when you get home!

In Australia, we drive on the left hand side of the road so if you’re familiar with driving on the right have FUN, be careful and look to your right first!

Equipment storage:

There will be storage facilities on site for all athletes. Athletes are welcome to use this facility from Wednesday through Tuesday. Although there will be security on site 24 hours the Moomba Masters does not take any responsibility for equipment left on site.

Parking on site:

There are NO car parking facilities on site so we recommend that after dropping your equipment, you take a leisurely stroll to the site each day from your down town hotel or try one of Melbourne’s famous trams, cable cars. Easy and loads of fun!

Where to eat and what to do:

There will be full catering facilities on site along with a licensed bar area. But as we have already told you Melbourne is one of the great cities of the world and along with great sport is very famous for its eating establishments and things to do. So when you’re not at the ski site competing or cheering on your favorite athlete make sure you check out what else is happening in Melbourne. No matter what your budget or desire our Moomba staff or hotel concierge can point you in the right direction.
